The Cockburn Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) runs a group of schools in South Leeds including three secondary schools: Cockburn school, Cockburn John Charles Academy and the new Cockburn Laurence Calvert Academy.
Transition to secondary school
Parents and carers of Year 6 pupils have been confirming places at the soon to be three Cockburn MAT secondary schools including the new Cockburn Laurence Calvert Academy.
The next stage of their transition into high school has begun and parents and carers are being asked to fill in the various forms required and give their contact details, etc. Staff from the Cockburn MAT schools are in touch with the local primary schools and are gathering information which will help them prepare for the next academic year.
The final stage of the process, working alongside government guidelines, will be to finalise transition plans which will hopefully include visits to the meet staff and buy uniform, etc. All of the Cockburn MAT transition team are delighted that so many parents and carers have accepted their places – the new combined Year 7 will be bigger than ever!
Extracurricular activities are back!
As government restrictions ease, students from Cockburn School and Cockburn John Charles Academy will again be invited to take part in a wide range of extracurricular activities. A great deal of planning has gone into this which will ensure that the year group bubbles remain in place and that the activities can take place safely. From English and Maths to Drama and PE, students across all year groups will be able to take part.
New Dining Room at Cockburn John Charles Academy nearly completed
The dining room is planned to be completed by 7 May, with new toilets, 900 capacity seating and a remodelled outdoor seating area. This will be a wonderful addition to the academy.
Amazing new art work created by hundreds of students
During Anti-Bullying week last year at Cockburn School, students from across a range of year groups contributed to a whole school artwork inspired by street artist Kelsey Montague & the ‘What lifts you?’ campaign. The Cockburn School wings are now on display. The main image above shows the detail of the artwork.
